Adventure Categories Explained

Are you stuck in a rut? Is your life going nowhere? Are you bored of the daily grind?

If you’re finding yourself answering ‘yes’ to any of those questions, then you are not alone. Everyone feels the fatigue of a monotonous life at some point, it’s just how you deal with it that matters.

So here’s my cure: Inject a little more adventure.

Mankind was made to explore, to conquer, to learn, to adventure. We’ve lost our way in recent times by prioritising work over play, but there is now an adventure renaissance, and you can be part of it.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. I’m not an adventurous person!

Neither am I, but you don’t have to be Bear Grylls to strike out on an adventure. Just a positive frame of mind and a desire to try something new.

I’ve never been particularly adventurous, but now I have bungee jumped in Canada, journeyed inside a slum in Mumbai and swum with wild dolphins in New Zealand, to name just a few things.

How is that possible? I hear you ask. It’s simple. I travel. And I push myself out of the perceived comfort zone, each time gaining a little confidence and another epic life experience. It’s all about practice.

But let’s be realistic. You’re not going to go from couch to Kilimanjaro in a day. It takes time to build your travelling confidence. And this is where I can help.

Each adventure on this site is split into 3 categories:

Soft Adventure (Rated 1 and 2 Stars)

Adventure rating 1Adventure rating 2

These are the day trips, the easy hikes, the small steps to adventure you can take with very little effort. You don’t even have to travel outside of your home country to enjoy some of these, but it’s highly encouraged.

Soft adventure is exactly as it sounds. Soft, cuddly, warm and fuzzy, but enough to give you that feeling of having achieved something.

Out of your Comfort Zone (Rated 3 and 4 Stars)

Adventure rating 3 Adventure rating 4

Pushing yourself to the next level, these are the adventures that get your heart pumping a little faster. You could be doing anything from canyoning to camel riding, or from white water rafting to sliding down an active volcano.

Not always easy, and with just enough adrenaline to make you sit up and take notice, these are adventures to write home about.

Off the Scale (Rated 5 Stars)

Adventure rating 5

Designed to make you question why you’d ever do this in the first place, these are the adventures which make the deepest and most long lasting memories. Sometimes putting yourself in mortal danger, sometimes just trying something wacky and outrageous, but always facing your fears.

Skydiving, bungee jumping, canyon swinging and even going into space (maybe in a few years), here’s where you find the really good stuff.
