….no scrap that. The best brunch in London – full stop.
You want a real local place where people queue in the cold just for a taste of delicious smooth coffee and and the best eggs in the capital? Look no further than Balham.
Recently voted the 4th best place to live in London, Balham is no longer ‘up and coming’, it has most certainly arrived. And I’m proud to call it my home. Within this little gem dwells one of the best breakfasts I’ve had (and I’ve eaten a lot of breakfasts). Welcome to Milk, (or if you want the pretentious version: M1LK).
If you’re after lard and blood pudding, you need to head elsewhere as Milk serves up a bit of a twist on the traditional brekky. Baked Kurdish eggs, served with crispy spinach or chorizo are just some of the delights, and the owner is a super friendly Kiwi guy who remembers his regulars and makes everyone feel special.
The cafe itself is on a pointed corner surrounded by windows so is really light and airy, and it’s small in there so don’t be surprised if there’s a bit of a wait. Service is quick though so you can be in and out in 15 mins if needed!
The best thing on the menu? If you ask me there’s still no better breakfast than the big hearty stack of corn fritters, served with halloumi and ‘smashed avo’. Wash it down with a pint of fresh smoothie (served in a milk bottle) and a fresh flat white, and you’ve got yourself a Saturday!
