Top 10 Christmas Gifts for Travellers 2014

If you believe anything the retailers tell you, Christmas is just around the corner. For some reason, this year it seems that everyone has gone a little Christmas- crazy. The first Christmas advert aired on UK television on November 7th: A massive 7 weeks before the big  day!

Normally I find this irritating and a little desperate, however for some reason this year I have been taken over by a Christmas frenzy! I’m embracing it with open arms, and have even built a Christmas wish list to make Santa check his list and then check it twice… Because it’s FABULOUS!

So, without further ado, I bring you the ultimate top 10 traveller’s gift list 2014.

GoPro Hero 4 Silver

A lot of people will argue that the Hero 4 Black massively outdoes the Silver, but I just can’t resist the touch screen and low-light functions. This little beauty will show any holiday in the best light, especially one full of action!

2. Travel Compact Journal  £6.97

Travel journal

No world wanderer can go without a small notepad to jot down the day’s oddities. I carry a notepad with me everywhere I go, but this one from CICO Books is just adorable, and the perfect size and price to fit into a stocking!

3. Silk Sleeping Bag Liner £19.00

Silk sleeping bag liner

Great for travellers heading to hot countries, this silk sleeping bag liner will keep you warm whilst adding a touch of luxury too. As it’s silk it’s super lightweight, and the thread is so fine that it will keep out nasties such as bed bugs. Win-win!

4. Sony DSCHX50 Compact Digital Camera £179.00

Sony DSC-HX50V digital cameraI’ve spent hours over the last few months poring over the best compact cameras on the market, as I hate lugging my DSLR around, especially in countries where the people don’t have a lot. It sometimes feels awkward and disrespectful. But this Sony compact camera is small, discreet, fits in your pocket and has superior image quality, along with an impressive 30x optical zoom.

5. Osprey Flare 22 Day Pack £39.99

Osprey Flare 22 day pack

I’m in love with this daypack. Not only does it look amazing, but the inside is divided into tons of handy sections, including space to keep a 15 inch laptop. Super easy for getting out your electrical gear at airport security, and really durable and lightweight too. I’m in bag heaven!

6. Luckies Scratch Map £5.25

Scratch map

What a great idea this is… You scratch off the countries you’ve visited to make your own personalised world map. But it’s pretty addictive, so might end up costing you a lot more than the £5.25 price tag in airfare to tick off all those wonderful countries!

7. ‘J Pillow’ Travel Pillow £14.95

J Pillow

In my humble opinion, far superior to a normal travel pillow, the J Pillow stops your head from flopping forward when you’re sleeping upright on long-haul flights or on overnight buses. I really can’t stress how a good night’s sleep helps you to appreciate the new place in front of you… worth every penny!

8. Women’s Cupcake Design Weekend Bag £27.00

Cupcake weekend bag

If it’s a girly girl you’re buying for, I can’t think of a better present than this cutesie cupcake bag, which is the ideal size for filling up and nipping off on a romantic weekend break. Plus at £27.00 you should have plenty of change to pay for the romantic break too, no?

9. Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2015 £6.99

Lonely Planet 2015

I have several (hundred) ‘coffee table’ books just like this one, but they never get old. Lonely Planet has done it again with their new ‘Best in Travel 2015’ book, showcasing the best cities, regions and countries to visit next year including El Chalten in Argentina, Rocky Mountain National Park, USA and Tasmania, Australia . Inspired yet?

10. SAVFY Wash Bag with Hook £3.99

Wash bagAnother great little stocking filler, and one of those things which you don’t expect to love, but totally end up falling for. A good wash bag will keep your traveller organised and happy for years to come, and I love this one from SAVFY with lots of individual pockets to keep all your bits and pieces separate. Genius!

I love those scratch cards. I believe they come in various editions (eg. Europe and World). Great overview, will think what I’ll put on my wish list next 🙂

I definitely would love to get a Go Pro or something similar to create videos of my trips! I also love the look of that travel journal, I definitely could do with one – relying on memory and photographs for blogging will only get me so far!
